Reading - The most important skill there is!
We aim for all our children to become fluent, confident readers who are passionate about reading. Children who read regularly or are read to regularly have the opportunity to open doors to so many different worlds. reading will give your child the tools to become an independent, lifelong learner. By home and school working together from the first day of reception, we can achieve this.
In school we use Read Write inc phonics in Reception, year 1 and Year 2 to give the children the best possible start with their literacy.
Read write inc is a phonics programme which helps all children learn to read fluently and at speed so that they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. The children are assessed by the reading lead, Mrs Redhead and grouped according to their ability. Small group phonics lessons are taught daily by trained staff and thgere are consistent expectations across the range of abilities. At the end of each half term the children are re-assessed to check on their progress and regrouped.
The sounds that the children learn in school help them to read and write. They then take home 'book bag books' to help the practise these and consolidate learning (whilst provising a bit of challenge) in a fun and engaging way!
